The statue's inscription reads, "In this temple as in the hearts of the
people for whom he saved the Union the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined
forever." You also can see the Gettysburg Address and Second Inaugural Address carved on

Probably the most recognizable of all Lincoln statues, this 19-foot marble work
dominates the famous Lincoln Memorial. Created by Daniel Chester French, the
leading American sculptor of the day, it was dedicated on May 30, 1922 when
French was 72 years old. Lincoln's only surviving son, Robert Todd Lincoln,
attended the ceremonies as an honored guest.
