Volk Bust in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

In 1860 Chicago sculptor Leonard Volk made the first bust of Abraham Lincoln from life, several months before Lincoln won the presidential election. The various busts and statues Volk eventually produced originated from a life mask of Lincoln made in his studio.

This draped bust of the beardless Lincoln was once on display at the Wills House in downtown Gettysburg. It is one of many copies reproduced in plaster.
