Soldiers Mural

Shortly after the Civil War began, thousands of Union soldiers temporarily occupied the Capitol, camping in the House and Senate chambers and Rotunda. Two days later Lincoln and Secretary of State Seward visited the quarters of this regiment in the House Chamber. This ceiling mural depicting soldiers in the Capitol appears on the House Wing first floor.
