Cavalry Sculpture Group

Four bronze military groups anchor the Lincoln tomb design at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Larkin Mead, who designed all of them, sketched Civil War battle scenes for Harper's Weekly in 1861 before moving to Italy.

In 1883 the city of Boston donated the Cavalry Group, which stands to the east of the Lincoln statue. It shows a dying Union soldier who fell from his horse, supported by a comrade.
