Titled "Out of the Wilderness," the Mitchell work was completed in 1991. It was commissioned
by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and the Capital Development Board Art in
Architecture program.Mitchell Statue in
New Salem State Historic Site boasts two equestrian Lincoln statues -- this piece and the
one by Anna Hyatt Huntington which stands near the entrance to the park. You can see
this small bronze sculpture by Marshall Mitchell in the Visitor Center.
