Schweizer Statue in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Of the hundreds of monuments on the Gettysburg battlefield, few command attention like the huge memorial built by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Here Abraham Lincoln appears as one of eight bronze statues in the domed granite monument honoring 35,000 soldiers.

Although the monument was dedicated in 1910, the statues were not put into position until 1913. J. Otto Schweizer, the Swiss-born sculptor who created this Lincoln statue, also designed two others for this location -- Generals Pleasanton and Gregg.
