5. Isaac Gulihur Home

Like Abraham Lincoln, Isaac Gulihur was a Kentuckian by birth. He arrived in New Salem the same year as the Trent brothers (one year after Lincoln), and built a cabin on the west end of town. He married Elizabeth Burner, the daughter of another neighbor.

In 1832 he volunteered for duty during the Black Hawk War and served with Lincoln's company as a private. Gulihur joined the exodus from New Salem in 1834, when he moved his family to Knox County, Illinois.
