Senator Edward D. Baker, close friend of the Lincoln family, is killed
at the battle of Ball's Bluff, Virginia.
October 23, 1847
Lincoln leases his home in Springfield, Illinois to Cornelius Ludlum before
leaving to take his seat in Congress.
October 25, 1841
Lincoln buys land in Coles County, Illinois from his father and stepmother,
giving them use of it for their lifetime.
